Beckstoffer Georges III is one of Napa Valley’s most storied pieces of ground. The vineyard’s history runs back to 1895, when a portion was first planted by Mrs. Thomas Rutherford. In 1928, Beaulieu founder Georges de Latour purchased the 300-acre parcel and designated it Beaulieu Vineyard #3 — the source for BV’s Rutherford Cabernets under renowned winemaker André Tchelistcheff, wines that defined Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon for a generation. Beckstoffer Vineyards acquired the property in 1988 and replanted to modern Cabernet Sauvignon clones with tighter spacing and updated trellising. In 2009, 181 acres were placed under a permanent land conservation easement. Today, the vineyard is also home to the main offices of Beckstoffer Vineyards.
Located between Conn Creek Road and the Silverado Trail in Rutherford AVA, Georges III sits at the center of Napa’s most celebrated Cabernet Sauvignon country. The combination of Rutherford’s benchland soils and long growing season builds the kind of structure and depth that makes this fruit worth farming carefully.
