Winemakers Notes
Sourced from a block at our Saitone Estate that has a high concentration of Alicante Bouchet, this old-vine field blend exhibits fantastic color and concentration. Alicante is known as a teinturier grape, in which color compounds are in both the skin and the pulp, leading to wines of intensity and intrigue. In most other grape varieties, the color compounds are only in the skin. Brooding with dark fruits and anise, the wine exudes complexity. On the palate, flavors of red and black fruits are framed with a citrus-like juicy acidity. The tannins are robust but polished, something that only old vines can accomplish. Enjoy with a grilled steak or tri-tip.
