His favorite wine region is Sonoma, and his last memorable bottle of wine was a 1998 Williams Selyem Ferrington Pinot Noir. Over the years, Mike has experienced the keys to successful winemaking and boils them down to simple attributes: dedication, a strong work ethic and passion.
When Mike’s not monitoring crushers, de-stemmers or our bottling line, you’ll find him below the deep blue Pacific, diving for Abalone. A life of adventure just comes naturally to a guy whose first car was a 750cc Honda Interceptor, purchased from a motorcycle racer at Sears Point. “Cheesemore” as he’s been called a time or two over the years, has also jumped out of plane on a skydiving tour.
Mike is particularly fond of any vintage from 1999, as that was the year his son was born. Pinots from Sonoma County that year had a, “modest depth of flavor but good freshness” and a “sweet and supple” quality.
