The Wine Advocate, Issue 162
"The outstanding 2004 Chardonnay Russian River possesses abundant minerality and tropical fruit as well as a full-bodied texture and length."

2002 Chardonnay Russian River - 93 points
Brisk, ripe nectarine flavors glance off the oak elements of this chardonnay.  Stay with it, and the fruit reveals more layers, ripe as pineapple, tart as lemon, all tightening into the mineral tones of lees.  The wine is gentle and lasting, what some would call Burgundian; I’d rather call it honest, vinous chardonnay.  Decant a bottle for roast salmon.

Detailed Wine Information

Vineyard Notes:The 2004 Russian River Valley Chardonnay is a blend of fruit from two Russian River Valley vineyards: Estate Drake Vineyard and Heintz Vineyard.
Vintage Notes:For this blend, Bob selected hand-made French oak barrels, with medium-plus toast to highlight the flavors from each vineyard. This wine was aged for 16 months in Marcel Cadet French oak barrels and then bottle aged for 5 months. The barrels were 38% new oak, 13% one-year-old, 44% two-year-old and 5% three-year-old.
Winemakers Notes:The perfume of caramel apples, Asian pears, honeysuckle and tangerine zest resonates in the aromas of this blend. Rich and lush flavors of Gravenstein apples, pears, minerals, crème caramel, spice and roasted almonds linger on the palate. Pleasant acids accentuate the exotic fruit characters that become affluent and creamy in your mouth. The silky fruit concentration finishes with a mineral quality.
