2004 Peay Vineyard Pinot Noir

Winemaker's Notes
Intense aromas of wild raspberry, black cherry, cardamom, roasted cacao beans and espresso fill your glass. The small crop on the Sonoma Coast in 2004 concentrated the rich tannins and yielded mouth-filling flavors of wild berries, cranberry, Valrhona chocolate, sweet spices and mineral. An expressive, yet youthful wine that will develop with time.

Awards and Reviews
2004 Peay Vineyard Pinot Noir Good deep ruby-red. Knockout, high-toned nose of black raspberry and minerals. Fully ripe but quite dry, pure and penetrating, with a youthfully aggressive character. The dense flavors of wild brambly berries and bitter chocolate reminded me of a wine on the Nuits-Saint-Georges/Vosne-Romanee border. Finishes with serious tannic spine. Very impressive but in need of some cellaring. May ultimately merit an even higher score. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May/June 2006, 92(+?) points
2003 Peay Vineyard Pinot Noir Here’s a dark, dense Pinot, brooding under its cloak of tannins and acids. It’s absolutely dry, with intense cherry pie, cola, root beer and oak flavors. If you drink it now without decanting, you’ll find a tough, hard wine. Let it breathe for a day, and it will begin to suggest its charms. Or let it develop naturally in the cellar for six years.
