2004 Coastlands Vineyard Pinot Noir

Winemaker's Notes
A bouquet of black cherries, cassis, cinnamon, Morel mushrooms and earth fills your nose at first. Concentrated flavors of wild berries, Asian spice, espresso and forest floor develop throughout the broad mouth feel. Extracted rich grape tannins are felt across your palate but carry through nicely with racy acidity in the finish.

Awards and Reviews
2004 Coastlands Vineyard Pinot Noir Good deep red-ruby. Highly complex nose melds black raspberry, graphite, minerals and exotic citrus rind. Tightly wound, brisk and penetrating, with wild raspberry and mineral flavors complicated by sexy barrel spices and coffee. Finishes with substantial tannins that call for a couple years of patience. Very strong juice. Here the added ripeness of 2004 has resulted in a considerably stronger wine than the 2003 version. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar - 92(+?) Points

Detailed Wine Information
|
| Special Designation: | Coastlands Vineyard |
| Vineyard Notes: | Coastlands Vineyard is located at an altitude of 1,150 feet, on a mountain ridge above the Pacific Ocean, four miles from Occidental. At this altitude, coastal breezes, not fog, are responsible for Coastlands Vineyards cool evenings and moderate daytime temperatures. The 15-acre vineyard was first planted in 1989, and consists of more than a dozen different clones, including Martini 13 & 15, Pommard and several Dijon Clones. |
| Vintage Notes: | For this wine, Bob selected hand-made French oak barrels, with medium-plus toast. The wine was aged for 16 months in Francois Freres oak barrels, 57% new oak, 43% one-year-old.
