Winemaker's Notes
"The same depth of pure blackberry and raspberry jam fills your mouth with hints of roasted coffee and anise. Dark chocolate and clove are wrapped around concentrated blackberries & wild raspberry jam in the nose. Jam-packed and concentrated in the mouth, the finish is substantial, luxuriant and sensibly tannic."
Winemaker Bob Cabral
Awards and Reviews
2003 Bacigalupi Zinfandel 93 points The 2003 Zinfandel Bacigalupi Vineyard exhibits a huge nose of crushed black raspberries, cherries, pepper, and spice box. Full-bodied, unctuously-textured, rich, decadently ripe, and fruit-driven, it should be consumed over the next 4-5 years. The Wine Advocate, January 2006
2003 Bacigalupi Zinfandel 94 points Full medium ruby. Like a zinfandel syrup on the nose, with a penetrating peppery quality lifting the cassis fruit. Superconcentrated wine with terrific fruit, giving shape and thrust by strong acids. Finishes firmly tannic and long, with repeating flavors of cassis and pepper. This will likely be long-lived. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May/June 2005

Detailed Wine Information
|
| Harvest Notes: | A hot spell in March, followed by a warm spring, influenced an unusually early bloom and budbreak. This precocious start, followed by a growing season of moderate temperatures, resulted in a very early harvest in 2004. Although we harvested the grapes two to three weeks earlier than normal, the long season provided ample time for the fruit to reach full maturity and develop extraordinary color and intense flavors A cooling trend in mid-September offered the Zinfandel additional hang time prior to their harvest. The vintage yielded wines of exceptional quality. |
| Special Designation: | Bacigalupi |
| Vineyard Notes: | The grapes for this wine come from a small block of old vine zinfandel in the Russian River Valley. The Bacigalupi zinfandel vineyard is less than 2 acres of 90+ year-old head pruned vines, which naturally yield low tonnage that produces very concentrated wines. |
| Vintage Notes: | The Bacigalupi Vineyard Zinfandel was aged in neutral Francois Freres French oak barrels for 16 months and then bottle aged for 5 months.
