2003 Vista Verde Vineyard Late Harvest Gewürztraminer
|
2000 93 points Aromas of yellow plum, pineapple, lemon peel, game, lichee and rosewater. Wonderfully exotic yet pure fruit enlivened by very strong (9.8 grams per liter) acidity. An intriguing floral quality adds to the wine's complexity. A wine of compelling fruit. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May/June 2002

Detailed Wine Information
|
| Harvest Notes: | Challenging weather during the 2003 growing season resulted in lighter than normal berry development. However lower yields, coupled with moderate temperatures, allowed for even ripening with good sugar, pH and acidity. Although Mother Nature provided us with a less than bountiful harvest, we are very pleased with the resulting wines. The grapes for this wine were harvested at an average of 34.2 Brix on November 5, 2004. |
| Vineyard Notes: | The Gewürztraminer was grafted in 1999 from Viognier. It is planted 5 feet by 12 feet or 726 plants per acre. The vines are trained on a goblet trellis cropped at 3 tons per acre. The grapes are typically left on the vine until they achieve a natural sugar content between 32 and 36 Brix. The soil within this parcel is San Benito gravely loam. The vines are positioned from East to West. |
| Vintage Notes: | For this blend, Bob selected hand-made 100% new Dargaud-Jaegle French oak barrels. This wine was barrel fermented at 52 degrees Fahrenheit. After fermentation the wine was aged in the barrel for five months and then bottled.
10.8% Alcohol, 16% Residual Sugar

| Winemakers Notes: | This would be our third vintage of dessert wine from this vineyard. Cold fermented for over 168 days in 100% brand new French oak barrels. Enchanting aromas of Sun Crest peaches, lichee, rose water and spices dictate the nose in your glass. Ripe flavors of peaches and nectarine pie are accentuated by the mouth-watering acidity. The finish goes on forever and would complement fruit desserts.
