Jim Forchini, Andrew Forchini The Forchinis, father Jim and son Andrew, have been growing Zinfandel for Williams Selyem since 2000. The winery gets grapes from the South Knoll and North Flats areas of the vineyards.
Vineyard Bio The Forchinis have vineyards in both the Russian River and Dry Creek valleys of Northwest Sonoma County, which are planted to a variety of different grapes including the Zinfandel grown for Williams Selyem. The pioneer ranch in Dry Creek Valley has a record of wine grape production that stretches back over one hundred and twenty years to 1883, while the Russian River Valley vineyard has a record of quality production since the early 1900s.
Personal Bio Jim Forchini Growing grapes and making wine goes back to Jim Forchini’s Italian roots as both sets of grandparents made wine in Italy. A second generation Californian, Jim graduated in 1960 from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in engineering. An engineer for 15 years, he bought the vineyard and started growing grapes in 1971. Jim and his wife Anita have three children.
Andrew Forchini Growing up on a vineyard made the choice of career easy for Andrew Forchini. Graduating from Fresno State with a degree in plant science, Andrew became the Vineyard Manager for the vineyards. He loves to farm and fish and is very environmentally conscious. Married for three years, Andrew and his wife have one child.
Prune for quality, not quantity. I believe in an intensive hands-on approach including hand harvesting. Let the chemistry of the vineyard come through in the wine.
