Jesse is a California native who spent his early childhood in Los Angeles and moved to Northern California at the age of 14. His Father has worked on the production side of the wine business for over 30 years and his grandfather was a lifetime food and hospitality professional. Jesse began his career in the micro-brewery industry, working under Master Brewer Don Barkley at the venerable Mendocino Brewing Company and at Ukiah Brewing Company, the second certified organic restaurant in the country.
Jesse moved to Santa Cruz early in his career and found success in the hospitality industry; undertaking management roles at historic beachside restaurants Paradise Beach Grille, Margaritaville, and the Davenport Roadhouse. In 2008 Jesse moved to the Napa Valley to elevate his career in fine dining. Under the mentorship of Executive Chef Brandon Sharp, his tenure at the Michelin star rated Solbar restaurant and Solage Resort was an eye-opening introduction into world class food and wine. Meeting renowned vintners and collectors, he was able to taste a variety of iconic wines, including the 2008 Williams Selyem Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. He immediately fell in love with the sophistication and craft of the wine and was astounded by the balance of subtlety and power. As General Manager and Sommelier at Terra Restaurant, another Michelin starred restaurant in St. Helena, he actively promoted the expanded presence of Williams Selyem on the wine list.
In 2013 Jesse decided to pursue a change in his career path that would allow him to focus on wine while continuing his dedication to hospitality. At boutique family winery Tres Sabores, Jesse was privileged to work under the tutelage of Julie Johnson; winemaker and owner of Tres Sabores, and co-founder of Frogs Leap Winery. At Tres Sabores, Jesse was educated as to the importance of conservation, sustainable farming practices, and collaboration in the wine making process. This experience further intensified his passion for world class wines and his determination to make the wine industry his ultimate path.
Jesse joined Williams Selyem in 2015 and is excited and extremely honored to be a part of what he considers to be the best Pinot Noir house in the Western World. Jesse loves his home state and enjoys the diverse bounty it has to offer. When not welcoming guests to Williams Selyem, he spends his time exploring the redwood forests and rugged coastlines of Northern California.
